On December 30, the Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center 10th Anniversary Exhibition and the Inauguration Ceremony of the Consortium of Universities in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center was held on East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University. Mr. Chen Yunxian, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province, Mr. Lin Ji, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province, and leaders of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality and 12 universities in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center (HEMC) attended the event.
Chen Yunxian appreciated the Exhibition and affirmed the achievements made by the 12 universities in HEMC over the ten years in system and mechanism innovation, talent cultivation, faculty development, science and technology innovation, cultural construction and social service.

Mr. Chen Yunxian, Vice Governor of Guangdong Province; Mr. Lin Ji, Deputy Secretary-General of the People’s Government of Guangdong Province; Prof. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee; Mr. Luo Weiqi, Director General of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province; and Mr. Wang Dong, Deputy Mayor of Guangzhou, jointly unveiled the Exhibition.
The Exhibition consists of a general exhibition about HEMC which includes 4 parts: Overview, History, Achievements, and Looking Ahead, as well as the exhibition about 12 universities in HEMC including Sun Yat-sen University and South China University of Technology.
At the inauguration ceremony of the Consortium of Universities in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center, Mr. Zheng Qingshun, Deputy Director General of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, introduced the background of the Consortium and the formulation of its Charter. Prof. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, was elected as President of the Consortium. Representatives of the universities and the President of the Consortium signed an agreement respectively, which marked the official inauguration of the Consortium.
Zheng Detao thanked the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and the universities in HEMC for their trust and support. He made suggestions on the work of the Consortium: first, make a work plan for the next year; second, highlight the focuses of work; third, establish a communication mechanism; and fourth, improve the organizational structure.

This year is the 10th anniversary of HEMC. Through ten years of efforts, HEMC has entered a track of scientific, normal and rapid development, has developed into a first-class higher education center in the country, and has become an important base for talent cultivation, science and technology innovation, cultural construction and social service in Guangdong and even in South China.
