The New Year bell is about to ring. 2015 is approaching. The Party Committee and the administration of the University would like to extend a New Year’s greeting to our current students and faculty members, retired faculty and staff, domestic and overseas alumni, and friends who have supported Sun Yat-sen University.
2014 is a year worth remembering, a year in which Sun Yat-sen University made new achievements on the foundation of past progress.
In the past year, we celebrated the 90th anniversary of Sun Yat-sen University. The celebrations themed on “academic study and alumni” enjoyed popular acclaim. The distinguished scholars’ lectures offered a feast of knowledge and culture to our students. The alumni events demonstrated the joy of homecoming. The 90th anniversary celebrations have raised the prestige and influence of the University at home and abroad, and strengthened our confidence and determination to promote the development of the University and strive to be world-class.
In the past year, the University focused on comprehensive reforms, and solidly completed all planned work. Consensus grew and achievments accomplished. The reform of personnel training was deepened and the quality of education was raised; the reform in internal management mechanisms was deepened and the vitality of school-running was enhanced; personnel system and academic research management system were improved and the overall level of the structuring of disciplines was raised. We believe that with the comprehensive deepening of various reforms, the centennial blueprint of Sun Yat-sen University will be realized.
In the past year, we formulated “Sun Yat-sen University Statute”, which was approved by the Ministry of Education. It provides stipulations on major and fundamental issues of the University such as the educational objectives, external relations, internal management mechanisms and various University affairs, and is of historic significance in the construction of the university system. We also established the First SYSU Advisory Board as a senior consultative body providing advice and counsel for the University’s decision making. It acts as a bridge and liaison that closely and comprehensively connects the University with all walks of the society, and gathers wisdom and force to promote the development of the University.
2015 is the final year to realize the Twelfth Five-Year Plan, the crucial year to comprehensively deepen reforms, and the starting year to push forward the rule of law in an all-round way. We must implement the spirit of the 18th CPC National Congress, the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee and the Fourth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. In accordance with Sun Yat-sen University Statute, we must promote reform and innovation throughout all fields of University development, be active and innovative, enhance implementation, seek breakthroughs, raise the school-running level, strengthen Party construction, and take new steps to comprehensively deepen reforms.
May the New Year bring health, happiness and success to our faculty, students, alumni and friends!
May Sun Yat-sen University have a better tomorrow!
