The Meeting for Collaborative Innovation Center for the Cooperation and Development of Hong Kong, Macao, and Mainland China, and the Think Tank Forum of Hong Kong and Macao Studies were successfully held at SYSU

On January 13, 2015, the Meeting of the Council and Academic Committee for Collaborative Innovation Center for the Cooperation and Development of Hong Kong, Macao, and Mainland China (hereinafter referred to as the Center), and the Think Tank Forum for Hong Kong and Macao Studies were successfully held in Swasey Hall of Sun Yat-sen University.

Professor Zheng Detao, Party Secretary of Sun Yat-sen University, gave the welcome speech, and said that Sun Yat-sen University would reform managerial mechanisms, implement effective measures to fully support the Center in its application for the national “2011 Plan” this year. Professor Li Ping, Deputy Party Secretary of Sun Yat-sen University and Chair Director for the Center, introduced the formation and development of the Center. Professor Li Shanmin, Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University, hosted the ceremony for appointment of academic advisers and academic committee members of the Center. Experts and scholars from mainland China, Hong Kong and Macao, directors of the Center met and discussed theoretical and practical problems in the area of Hong Kong and Macao studies, and gave advice on the Center’s further improvement.

The Center has invited well-known exports and scholars in Hong Kong and Macao studies to be academic advisors and academic committee members. It has invited Mr Qiao Xiaoyang, Chairman of Law Committee of National People’s Congress; Professor Chen Zuoer, President of Chinese Association of Hong Kong and Macao Studies; Professor Liu Meixun from Tsinghua University; Professor Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University; Professor Lau Siu-kai, emeritus professor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong; Professor Lee Chack-fan, Former Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong; and Professor Ieong Wan Chong, President of Macao Economic Association, as the academic advisors. It has also invited Professor Rao Geping from Peking University and 21 other experts of Hong Kong and Macao studies as academic committee members. Professor Zheng Detao and Professor Li Ping presented the certificates of appointment to the academic advisors and the academic committee members respectively.

The meeting also reviewed the Articles of the Center, the Articles of the Council, and the Articles of the Academic Committee.

In the Think Tank Forum of Hong Kong and Macao Studies, exports and scholars held wide and deep discussions in topics such as “One Country, Two Systems”, Governance of Hong Kong and Macao, Social and Economic Development, and Youth Education in Hong Kong and Macao, and also gave valuable advice on future orientations of Hong Kong and Macao studies and further development of the Center.

In the end, Professor Chen Guanghan, Director of the Center, gave the concluding remark and expressed his gratitude towards all guests and participants of the meeting.
