Prof. Ricardo Azziz, President of George Regents University, visited SYSU

On the afternoon of January 29, 2015, Prof. Ricardo Azziz, President of George Regents University (GRU), and Prof. Joe Z. Tsien, Co-Director of the Brain and Behavior Discovery Institute of GRU, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Li Mengfeng, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests, accompanied by Ms. Wu Xiaoyan, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation & Exchange of SYSU, and Prof. Yang Dongzi, Director of Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital.

President Azziz is an educator-scientist-executive with over 20 years of leadership experience in higher education, research, and healthcare. This was his first visit to SYSU. Prof. Li Mengfeng introduced SYSU’s history, international cooperation and exchange, and medical sciences.

The two sides exchanged opinions on medical talent training, basic medical research, clinical research and translational medicine. They hoped to deepen and strengthen cooperation and exchange in talent cultivation and scientific research in medical fields.

Founded in 1828, Georgia Regents University (GRU) is a public university in the United States, and one of the four public research universities in the University System of Georgia (USG). GRU includes nine colleges and schools, of which the Medical College of Georgia is the 13th oldest medical school in the US and among the top 3 medical schools in the southeast of the US.
