On the afternoon of April 3, 2015, a three-member delegation led by Mr. José Alberto Limas Gutiérrez, Acting Consul General of the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building, accompanied by Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, and Ms. Zhang Zhongli, Chair of Department of Spanish of School of International Studies.

Prof. Luo Jun warmly welcomed Mr. José Alberto Limas Gutiérrez and congratulated him on taking up the position of Acting Consul General. Prof. Luo Jun pointed out that China and Mexico have kept friendly relations, Guangdong and Mexico also have close relations. SYSU will strengthen cooperation and exchange with Mexico, and attract more Mexican students to study in SYSU. SYSU will continue to use the platform of the Confucius Institute at Autonomous University of Yucatan to promote communication between China and Mexico.
Mr. José Alberto Limas Gutiérrez thanked Prof. Luo Jun for the warm reception. He said that the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou will continue to keep good relationship with SYSU and promote cooperation between SYSU and Mexican universities and organizations. Mexico is in urgent need of talents who are proficient in Chinese language and familiar with Chinese culture. Guandong and Mexico have close economic and trade relations. He hoped to increase the number of Mexican students studying in SYSU and Guangdong and explore more fields of exchange.
Mr. José Alberto Limas Gutiérrez was appointed as Deputy Consul General of the Consulate General of Mexico in Guangzhou in December 2014, and became Acting Consul General on January 13, 2015.
