On the morning of April 13, 2015, an eight-member delegation led by H. E. Kassa Teklebrhan, Speaker of the House of Federation of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), accompanied by Prof. Wang Xunzhang, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Guangdong Provincial Committee, and Ms. Xia Jihui, Director-General of Foreign Affairs Bureau, General Office of the CPPCC National Committee.

Prof. Zheng Detao, Chairman of the University Board of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building, accompanied by Prof. Jiang Ming from School of Information Science and Technology, Associate Professor Zhang Guangnan, Deputy Director of the Center for Studies of Hong Kong, Macao and Pearl River Delta, Dr. Xu Weijia from Institute of Advanced Technology, and Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange.

Prof. Zheng Detao extended a warm welcome to the Ethiopian delegation. He said that it is significant for the delegation to visit SYSU in the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between China and Ethiopia. SYSU will explore cooperation with Ethiopia in the field of scientific research and education.

H. E. Kassa Teklebrhan introduced Addis Ababa University, the largest comprehensive university in Ethiopia. He stressed that Ethiopia attaches great importance to education and research, and encourages innovation. He hoped that Addis Ababa University and SYSU will conduct more collaborations and sign a MOU on cooperation.

SYSU experts introduced SYSU’s role of think tank in the construction of special economic zones in Guangdong as well as the industrialization of research findings. Members of the delegation said that SYSU’s research results provide good experience for Ethiopia.

After the meeting, accompanied by Prof. Zheng Detao, the Ethiopian delegation took a walking tour of South Campus.
