On April 29, 2015, a delegation led by Prof. Lu Gang, Party Secretary of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), and Prof. Ding Lieyun, President of HUST, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), and had a meeting with Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, and Prof. Li Mengfeng, Vice President of SYSU.

Prof. Lu Gang thanked SYSU for the meeting arrangement and introduced the purpose of the visit. Prof. Ding Lieyun said that in many disciplines and fields there is a broad basis for cooperation between HUST and SYSU, and he hoped that this visit would enhance mutual understanding and promote communication and exchange between the two universities.

Prof. Luo Jun extended a warm welcome to the guests. He introduced SYSU’s characteristics, four campuses, development plans, guidelines (oriented toward academic frontiers, national major strategic needs, national and regional economic and social development) and approaches (big teams, big projects and big platforms). He said that with distinctive academic strengths, SYSU and HUST could learn from each other and strengthen communication and cooperation to achieve common development.

The two sides discussed their experience and practice in the formulation of the thirteenth five year plan, disciplinary development, campus construction, and medical education.

After the meeting, the HUST delegation paid a visit to the Former Residence of Chen Yinque and the Library.
