On May 20, 2015, a group led by Mr. Yu Kangzhen, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, met with the group in Zhongshan Building on South Campus.

Members of the group also included Mr. Zhao Xingwu, Director-General of the Bureau of Fisheries of MOA, Mr. Feng Zhongwu, Director-General of the Veterinary Bureau of MOA, and Mr. Wen Bin, Director-General of the Administration of Ocean and Fisheries of Guangdong Province.

Prof. Songyang Zhou, Dean of School of Life Sciences, introduced SYSU’s achievements in the fields of aquaculture, animal husbandry and pollution-free agriculture, as well as its contributions to the agricultural and local economic development in Guangdong. Prof. Chen Yaosheng introduced the research in livestock and poultry breeding.

After listening to the report, Vice Minister Yu Kangzhen said that SYSU has strengths in agricultural research and has made outstanding contributions. He hoped that SYSU will do important work in variety breeding and improvement, breeding technology, disease prevention and control, industrialized application, etc.

President Luo Jun pointed out that in recent years, with the great support from the Ministry of Agriculture and the Administration of Ocean and Fisheries of Guangdong Province, SYSU has improved its level in discipline construction, talent cultivation and research platforms in the fields of agriculture. He said that SYSU will enhance work in agricultural science and technology, promote transformation of research achievements, and make more contributions to economic and social development.
