On May 26, 2015, Prof. Roger Kornberg, 2006 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry and professor of Stanford University, visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Prof. Luo Jun, President of SYSU, Prof. Li Mengfeng, Vice President of SYSU, and Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, met with Prof. Kornberg in Zhongshan Building. Both sides exchanged views on further cooperation in the field of biomedicine between the two universities.

Prof. Liang Dan, Deputy Director of the Office of Scientific Research and Development, Prof. Wen Wushao, Director of the Office of International Key Projects, Prof. Li Qing and Prof. Wang Zhong from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences also attended the meeting.
Prof. Roger Kornberg was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2006. He is a professor in the Department of Structural Biology of Stanford University. In 2012, SYSU employed the team on the “Research and Development of New Type Targeted Anti-Cancer Drugs” led by Prof. Kornberg. This team was selected as one of the third batch of “Guangdong Special Project of the Introduction of Innovative Science Research Teams”. In 2013, Prof. Kornberg was appointed as Director of the
Center for Cellular and Structural Biology of SYSU. In 2014, he was appointed as a member of the SYSU Advisory Board.
