A delegation from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign visits SYSU

On the morning of June 17, 2015, a delegation led by Dr. Reitumetse Mabokela,
Vice Provost for International Affairs and Global Strategies, and Director of International Programs and Studies, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), visited Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU). Members of the delegation also included Ms. Anna Tsai, Assistant to the Vice Chancellor, Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, UIUC. Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, met with the guests in Zhongshan Building, accompanied by Prof. Zhang Chaozhi, Associate Dean of School of Tourism Management, and Ms. Xu Yao, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange.

Prof. Wei Minghai extended a warm welcome to the guests, and introduced SYSU’s history and disciplines of strength. He pointed out that SYSU will deepen cooperation with UIUC on the basis of existing collaborations.

Dr. Reitumetse Mabokela introduced UIUC, especially its international students and student affairs administration. She hoped that this visit would deepen mutual understanding and promote cooperation between the two universities.

The two sides exchanged opinions on administrative staff training and student exchange program, and discussed the possibilities of conducting cooperation in the fields of Business, Law and Biomedical Engineering.

Founded in 1867, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) is a prestigious research university in the US with strengths in computer engineering, electronic engineering, biology, medical sciences, material engineering and environmental engineering. In 1998, SYSU signed a cooperative agreement with UIUC. In 2014, UIUC, SYSU School of Tourism Management, and the People’s Government of Zhangjiaje City in Hunan Province signed an agreement to establish the International Joint Lab, aimed at doing research on the tourism development of Zhangjiajie.
