SYSU held activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of war victory

On the morning of September 3, the flag-raising ceremony was held on East Campus of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World's Anti-Fascist War. Prof. Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU, delivered a speech. More than 3,000 first-year students who are receiving military training as well as representatives of faculty and staff attended the ceremony. Afterwards, they watched the live broadcast of the V-Day parade.

On the morning of September 1, the commemorative medal presenting ceremony was held in Swasey Hall on South Campus. Prof. Zheng Detao, Secretary of SYSU Party Committee, presented the commemorative medals to representatives of the veterans, and Prof. Wei Minghai, Vice President of SYSU, presented 5,000 yuan to each of them. A total of 23 veterans at SYSU are awarded the commemorative medals. Among them, the oldest one is 100 years old and the youngest one is 82 years old.

On September 2, the photo exhibition of SYSU during the War of Resistance was launched on East Campus with the aim to bear history in mind, cherish peace and open up the future.

From August 30 to September 3, over twenty students were sent by SYSU Youth Association to visit dozens of SYSU alumni who took part in the War of Resistance, bringing them greetings from the new generation and learning from these veterans.
