The prestigious First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University launched a subsidiary hospital on Wednesday in the Nansha district of Guangzhou, Guangdong province. It will serve local residents and people from Hong Kong and Macao.
The hospital aims to become a hub for public health emergencies, world-class precision medicine, training of top talent and an example of high-level international cooperation, said Xiao Haipeng, the hospital's president.
With a helicopter landing pad in place, a dock to be built nearby, onboard computed tomography scanners and mobile intensive care units, the Nansha division will be able serve the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in rescues and treatment quickly, he said.
It has 1,500 beds in a 506,000 square-meter facility, including a 33,000-sq m international medical center. In its smart integrated logistics system, a 5,100-meter rail logistics system covers more than 90 units.
To facilitate medical services to residents, including retirees, from Hong Kong and Macao, talks with governments are underway.
