Recently, Yat-sen College hosted the opening ceremony of 2011 "Outstanding Basic Science Student Cultivation Experimental Class" in Swasey Hall. Professor Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of SYSU and Dean of Yat-sen College; members of the subject committees of "Outstanding Basic Science Student Cultivation Experimental Plan"; relevant persons in charge from School of Mathematic & Computational Science, School of Physics & Engineering, School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, School of Life Sciences, University Dean’s office, Student Affairs Office, Graduate School, SYSU Youth Association, SYSU Admission Office, Career Development Counseling Center; and 61 students of the experimental class and their parents attended the ceremony.

The ceremony started with the solemn national anthem. Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President, addressed the ceremony on behalf of SYSU. He stressed that the University has paid great attention to the cultivation of outstanding basic science students, elaborately introduced the background of the “Outstanding Basic Science Student Cultivation Experimental Plan”, and explained the concept and mode of cultivation for the experimental class, hoping that the students will take the opportunity to study diligently and pursue learning steadfastly, to continually challenge themselves in their quest for scientific truth and to strive to reach the top of the academic Mount Qomolangma.Professor He Xionglei of the School of Life Sciences gave a speech on behalf of the supervisors of the experimental class. He encouraged the students to have a lofty aspiration and walk with a firm step; and to devote themselves to the study and research in basic sciences.
Huang Kaichi gave a speech on behalf of all the students of the 2011 experimental class, expressing gratitude to the University and the teachers for the concern and care, and promising to study hard and repay the country with remarkable and significant achievements.
