37 Disciplines in SYSU Approved as the Ninth Round of Guangdong Provincial Key Disciplines

Recently, the Department of Education of Guangdong Province announced the ninth round of Guangdong provincial key disciplines. 37 disciplines (36 first-leveland 1 second-level) in Sun Yat-sen University were approved as the ninth round of Guangdong provincial key disciplines, and the number of approved key disciplines ranked first in the province.
The ninth round of Guangdong Provincial key disciplines are divided into four types: peak-climbing key disciplines, preponderant key disciplines, featured key disciplines and cultivation key disciplines. The peak-climbing key discipline is, in terms of overall strength, the leading discipline in the province with the ability to become a national key discipline; the preponderant key discipline is the discipline whose overall strength is among the top of its kind in the province; the featured key discipline is the applied discipline with certain influence in the province and in line with Guangdong provincial disciplinary restructuring and optimization; the cultivation key discipline is the discipline approved from the perspective of optimizing the structure and layout of disciplines.
The approved provincial key disciplines in Sun Yat-sen University are mainly peak-climbing and preponderant ones, among which 20 first-level disciplines including Philosophy, Theoretical Economics, Sociology, Marxist Theory, Chinese Language and Literature, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Chinese History, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography, Biology, Ecology, Computer Science and Technology, Basic Medicine, Clinical Medicine, Public Health and Preventative Medicine, Pharmaceutical Science, Science of Business Administration, and Science of Public Management, are approved as peak-climbing key disciplines, accounting for nearly one-third in the province; 16 first-level disciplines including Applied Economics, Law, Political Science, Ethnology, Archeology, World History, Marine Sciences, Statistics, Information and Communication Engineering, Environmental Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Software Engineering, Stomatology, Nursing, Management Science and Engineering, Science of Library, Information and Archives, and the second-level discipline of Basic Psychology are approved as preponderant key disciplines.
In accordance with the requirements of the Department of Education of Guangdong Province, the University will strengthen the construction and management of the ninth round of Guangdong provincial key disciplines, further improve the level of teaching and scientific research, give full play to the radiating role of key disciplines, optimize the structure and layout of disciplines, and better serve the economic and social development of the nation and Guangdong province.
