At the conference, Professor Bao Jigang, Assistant President of SYSU and Dean of School of Tourism Management, was elected as the president of the second session of CTEA. He delivered an inaugural address entitled “The Dream and Practice of China Tourism Education”. He pointed out that while China’s tourism education is exploring and developing, it needs more rational reflection, constant pursuit and down-to-earth practice. Tourism study and education should attach importance to reflective liberal and vocational education and practice. Tourism is a sunrise industry. The problems, conflicts, experiences and lessons are the steady stream of momentum for tourism industry and tourism education. The disciplinary independence and contribution of tourism research are the responsibilities and missions of both students and educators in tourism.
The seminar on “The Trends of World Tourism and China Tourism Education” was held after the election. Professor Frank Go, distinguished expert for the World Tourism Organization, the Bewetoer Chair of Tourism Management at the Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University, proposed his original opinion on the subject. Tourism educators from Nankai University, Zhejiang University, Tianjing University of Commerce and other three famous schools shared their experiences, and discussed tourism education and its trends with representatives from tourism education colleges and training centers across the whole country.
