Recently, the application led by Sun Yat-sen University to build “Guangdong Division of the National Remote Sensing Center of China (NRSCC)” was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology. The Guangdong Division of NRSCC will rely on SYSU and integrate the research strengths of other institutes in Guangdong. Professor Liu Lin, Dean of School of Geography and Planning of SYSU, will serve as the director of Guangdong Division.
The establishment of Guangdong Division is a new highlight of NRSCC’s local development. Based in Guangdong and covering South China, it will conduct research in earth observation and navigation technology, provide relevant information and technological support for regional resources and environment survey, ecological environment protection and treatment, natural disaster monitoring and regional socioeconomic development, and serve as an important base for sensing technology research and development and talent training.
NRSCC, a public institution under the Ministry of Science and Technology, is aimed at promoting earth observation and navigation technology through the mode of “condensed kernel, wide network”. Currently, NRSCC has 9 local divisions.
SYSU will take the establishment of Guangdong Division as a new starting point, highlight its characteristics, enhance technological innovation, improve the quality and effectiveness of application, and promote the rapid development of earth observation and navigation technology.
