The 1st Sino-Japanese Urban Geography Transnational Joint Seminar came to a successful close

On February 17-23, 2014, the teachers and students from Department of Urban and Regional Planning of School of Geography and Planning of Sun Yat-sen University, and Institute of Human and Social Sciences of Kanazawa University, Japan held a one-week urban geography transnational joint seminar on South Campus of SYSU. 25 students from SYSU and 15 students from Kanazawa University were mixed up and divided into 6 groups to do research and communicate in English. The joint seminar, in the form of half-day field trips and half-day discussions, covered topics including urban planning and business development, suburbanization and migration, manufacturing area and farming area in suburbs. An announcement campaign was held successfully at the end of the joint seminar.

The joint seminar was headed by Professor Kamiya and Associate Professor Yoshida from Kanazawa University, and Professor Zhou Chunshan, Professor Liu Yungang and Dr. Wang Jin from SYSU. Besides, Professor Zhou Suhong, Professor He Shenjing, Professor Li Lixun, Professor Lin Geng, Associate Professor Yuan Yuan, Associate Professor Shen Jing, Dr. Liang Yutian and Dr. Zhu Zhanqiang from SYSU also took part in the seminar. Professor Liu Zufa and Dr. Yue Hui from SYSU, Ms. Aihara from the Consulate-General of Japan in Guangzhou, Dr. Yito from the University of Tokyo, Professor Kato and Associate Professor Osamu from Kobe University attended relevant events.

After the joint seminar, both parties signed the letter of intent for cooperation. The 2nd Sino-Japanese Urban Geography Transnational Joint Seminar will be held in Japan next year.
