"Top-notch talents are not ‘pulled out’ but grow in suitable soil," said Professor Chen Min, Executive Dean of YAT-SEN School of Sun Yat-sen University, in a lecture entitled “Elite Education: The Request of the Time — A Brief Introduction to the Cultivation of Top-notch Talents in Basic Disciplines” at the 29th Guangdong Adolescents Science and Technology Innovation Contest on March 29.
Every year YAT-SEN School selects 60 excellent students from the four disciplines of mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology to study in the teaching experiment class. What kind of students are lucky enough to be selected? Professor Chen Min said: “In 20 years, these top-notch talents will be standing at the summit of their respective disciplines. ‘The excellent mediocre’ produced by the prevalent spoon-feeding education in primary and middle schools will not meet the requirements. The students in the top-notch plan should first have great interest in scientific research and innovate actively.”
