The academic paper, written by Prof. Qin Jiayin and his three former Ph.D. students, Dr. Luo Liping, Dr. Zhang Ping and Dr. Zhang Guangchi, from School of Information Science and Technology, Sun Yat-sen University, won 2014 IEEE Communications Society Heinrich Hertz Award for Best Communications Letter.
This is the SECOND time that the IEEE Communications Society Heinrich Hertz Award for Best Communications Letter goes to an academic paper written by Chinese scholars. This award is granted to an outstanding academic paper published in any letter journal financially sponsored or co-sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society during the previous 3 calendar years. Annually, ONLY ONE academic paper is awarded. It is one of the most significant international academic awards in the field of communications.
The academic paper “Outage Performance for Cognitive Relay Networks with Underlay Spectrum Sharing” written by Prof. Qin’s group was published on IEEE Communications Letters in July 2011. The authors, for the first time in the literature, revealed the effect of channel correlation between primary and secondary users on the performance of underlay spectrum sharing in cognitive relay networks, and proposed a theoretical framework for interference analyzing.
