Professor Liang Qi was elected Vice President of the fifth Regional Science Association of China and Director of Spatial Economics Committee

Professor Liang Qi from Sun Yat-sen University was elected Vice President of the fifth Regional Science Association of China at the Council Conference held in Renmin University of China on April 26th. At the same time, the Spatial Economics Committee was founded and Professor Liang was elected Director of the Committee. Before that, she has been the Vice President of the fourth Regional Science Association.
Professor Liang Qi, Director of SYSU Center for Industrial and Regional Development Research, assumed the Chief Expert for the Major Project of National Social Science Fund titled “Research on the Theory and Practice of Spatial Economics in China” in 2013 with members of diverse academic backgrounds like economics, management, and mathematics from Sun Yat-sen University, Peking University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, Nankai University and Harbin Institute of Technology. It is the first time the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science has set up a major project for spatial economics. Earlier, Professor Liang published an article in
Social Sciences in China (2013, Vol. 12) on Urban Hierarchy and pointed out that optimizing this system should become a consistent objective in the construction of new-style urbanization and city cluster today.
The Regional Science Association of China (RSAC), is a national association which enjoys close relationship with renowned global organizations like the Regional Science Association International (RSAI), Pacific Regional Science Conference Organization (PRSCO), North American Regional Science Council (NARSC) and European Regional Science Association (ERSA). It is also an internationally-recognized academic association on Regional Science of China.
