6th SYSU Whampoa Forum held at SYSU

On June 22, the 6th SYSU Whampoa Forum was held in the International Conference Hall at Sun Yat-sen Business School (SYSBS). The theme of the forum was "Driving Forces behind Business Cycles", presented by Dr. Finn E. Kydland, the famous Norwegian economist, Henley Professor of Economics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and the Nobel Prize laureate in 2004. In attendance were more than 500 college students, faculty members, research scholars and business representatives.

After expressing his special affection towards business schools, Prof. Kydland delivered the keynote speech by starting with the topic of business cycles. In his opinion, business cycles are closely connected with the development of a country yet deviate from the main trend sometimes. Later, Prof. Kydland exemplified his theory in providing a number of evidence, such as the independence of the central banks in different nations, the policy making of Argentina in the past 50 years, and the stable development of Ireland.

During the roundtable session, Prof. Finn E. Kydland, Dean Yadong Luo and Prof. Guangzhong Li, Director of Department of Finance and Investment, SYSBS, made a profound analysis on “The New Development Mode in China under Business Cycles”.
