On August 28, Chen Chunsheng, Executive Deputy Secretary and Vice President of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), went to Shilu Iron Deposit in Changjiang, Hainan province to conduct survey on the field practice teaching of School of Earth Science and Geological Engineering at SYSU. Chen Chunsheng and Liu Mingdong, General Manager of Hainan Mining Co., Ltd. (Hainan Mining), jointly unveiled the "Sun Yat-sen University Hainan Mining Field Practice Base".
The attendees of the unveiling ceremony also included Zhang Hongyi, Vice General Manager of Hainan Mining; Guo Fengfang, Vice General Manager of Hainan Mining; Huang Houjing, Chief Engineer of Hainan Mining; Professor Xu Deru from Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Zhang Xiaowen, Director of Hainan Resource & Environment Survey Institute; Zhang Ke, Dean of School of Earth Science and Geological Engineering at SYSU; and Tang Rui, Secretary of School of Earth Science and Geological Engineering at SYSU.
After the ceremony, Chen Chunsheng and SYSU teachers held a discussion with leaders of Hainan Mining, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry and Hainan Geological Survey on geological practice and industry-university-research. Chen Chunsheng said that SYSU attaches importance to practice teaching, and geological field practice is an indispensable part of geological education.

Then, Chen Chunsheng visited the open pit of Shilu Iron Deposit accompanied by leaders of Hainan Mining. He also went to the dormitories to learn about the study and life of SYSU teachers ans students in field practice.
