On the morning of September 11, 2014, the opening ceremony of the 4th SYSU International Masters of Public Administration (IMPA) Program for students from developing countries was held on South Campus. Prof. Xiao Bin, Dean of School of Government, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU), attended and addressed the ceremony. Ms. Wu Xiaoyan, Deputy Director of Office of International Cooperation & Exchange, faculty and staff members of the program, and 24 students from 16 countries took part in the event. The ceremony was presided over by Prof. Liu Yaping from School of Government at SYSU.

Prof. Xiao Bin said that the School of Government organized an excellent teaching and management team for this program and had accumulated experience through previous three sessions. He hoped that the students would take this opportunity to deepen their understanding of the governance experiences and models in developing countries and improve their problem solving ability so that they could contribute to their countries’ development as well as the peace and development of the world after graduation.
Ms. Sharda Moira Johnn from Suriname gave a speech on behalf of all students. She expressed appreciation for the program administrators in the Ministry of Commerce and the Ministry of Education of China as well as the School of Government at SYSU. She believed that the students would benefit from their international background and SYSU’s academic tradition in the one-year program.
