The School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University joined iSchools on October 5th, 2014 and became the third member in China after the School of Information Management in Wuhan University and Nanjing University.
The iSchools organization was founded in 2004 by a collection of 59 top library and information science schools all around the world, such as School of Information in University of California, Berkeley, School of Library and Information Studies in University of Wisconsin, Madison and Faculty of Information in University of Toronto. Each member institution is engaged in diversified forms of communication as well as cooperation of research and education. These schools, colleges, and departments devote themselves to promoting all kinds of professional skills concerning Information, which is the indispensable element of scientific progress, business prosperity, education reform and culture development. Together they share a fundamental interest in the relationships between information, people, and technology.
The School of Information Management of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was founded in 1980 and has become the only education unit of Library, Information and Archives with an integrated system of subjects and education levels in South China. With the rapid growth of our school, becoming a member of iSchools is guaranteed to offer us an important opportunity for further development.
Meanwhile, three other schools have also joined the iSchools organization. They are: School of Information Studies in McGill University (Canada), School of Library and Information Science in Simmons College (USA), and School of Library and Information Science in Yonsei University (South Korea).
