On June 25, 2015, the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science released the list of projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) in 2015. Thirty-seven projects of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) have received funding from NSSFC this year (including 4 major projects, 18 general projects and 15 youth projects), ranking the third among universities nationwide, only after Renmin University of China (50 projects) and Peking University (39 projects).

In 2015, SYSU submitted a total of 124 projects applying for NSSFC funding, and 37 of them have been approved, with the success rate being 29.84%, which is 8 percent higher than last year. Theses approved projects are from fifteen schools and departments or research institutes at SYSU, including Department of Philosophy (5 projects), School of Marxism (4 projects), School of Government (4 projects), Department of Chinese (3 projects), and School of Chinese as a Second Language (3 projects).
