On January 10, 2016, the International Workshop on the Variations of East Asian Monsoon, co-organized by the School of Atmospheric Sciences of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, was held at SYSU Hotel and Conference Center in Guangzhou.

Profs. Akimasa Sumi and Masahide Kimoto from the University of Tokyo, Prof. Takemasa Miyoshi from the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research in Japan, Academician ZHANG Renhe and Profs. WU Bingyi and WEN Min from the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences, Prof. SHEN Xueshun from the Numerical Weather Prediction Center of the China Meteorological Administration, Prof. CHEN Wen from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as well as about 60 faculty members and students from the School of Atmospheric Sciences of SYSU attended the workshop.
The participants presented results from their recent research and held in-depth discussions on various issues related to the variations of East Asian monsoon such as global warming, ENSO, impact of tropical precipitation, climate variability and change, the Arctic Oscillation, big data assimilation, and diurnal variations of precipitation over the monsoon region.
