The 10th Hydroscience Development Forum cum the “Fluvial Hydrologic Cycle and Water Resources Evolution” Seminar, financially supported by National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (NSFDYS), was held on April 2-3, 2016. The event was hosted by School of Geography and Planning, Sun Yat-sen University. Nearly 300 scholars from 55 colleges and institutes, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, The University of Hong Kong, Beijing Normal University and Wuhan University, attended the forum.

School Dean Liu Lin, Party Secretary Gu Xiaofeng and Professor Chen Xiaohong expressed warm welcome and best wishes to the attendees. The recipient of NSFDYS and the Assistant to the Dean of School, Professor Zhang Qiang presided over the opening ceremony. For the forum, the discussion and reports centered around the themes of “Spatial-temporal characteristics and mechanism of the hydrological cycle processes”, “Stimulation, assessment and prediction of flood and drought processes with consideration of nonstationarity”, “Vulnerability of fluvial water resources system and related regional responses to climate change”, “Development and application of hydrological modelling”, and “Water environment and ecohydrological protection”.

During the forum, 22 out of more than 100 submitted papers were presented. All scientific issues were warmly discussed by face-to-face discussion. Clarifications were done on internationally interesting scientific issues such as hydrological cycle in the backdrop of warming climate, hydrological modelling using hydrological models and statistical models with consideration of nonstationarity.

The forum has helped to strengthen our academic exchanges with scholars in the field of hydrology and water resources, increased our national influence on water sciences research, and promoted the innovative development of research on water cycle and water resources evolution in southern China.

The forum cum seminar was jointly organized by School of Geography and Planning of Sun Yat-sen University, Key Laboratory of Water Cycle and Water Security in Southern China of Guangdong Higher Education Institutes, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory for Urbanization and Geo-simulation, South China Institute of Environmental Sciences of Ministry of Environmental Protection, and School of Civil Engineering and Transportation of South China University of Technology.
