Professor Honggang Xu receives the Roy Wolfe Award

During the 2016 Annual Meeting of the American Association of Geographers (AAG), held from March 28 to April 2 in San Francisco, Prof. Honggang Xu from the School of Tourism Management (STM) of Sun Yat-sen University received the Roy Wolfe Award from the American Association of Geographers - Recreation, Tourism and Sport Specialty Group (AAG-RTS).

 

Prof. Honggang Xu moderated a session under the topic “Conceptualising Lifestyles, Work and Leisure Mobilities through the Lifecourse”, and delivered a keynote speech entitled “Home of lifestyle tourism entrepreneurs in Dali China”. She also attended a theme seminar “Toward a Research Agenda for Tourism Geography”, sharing her thoughts about the development of tourism geography with the topic of “The Contribution of Tourism Geography to Geography”.

Besides, the PhD student Shengrong Chen from STM gave a presentation in a panel discussion on “Natural Disasters and Tourism: International Perspectives on Impacts, Social Capital, Preparedness, and Community Resiliency", and discussed with other scholars about black tourism and black heritage studies from a variety of perspectives.

Founded in 1904, the American Association of Geographers (AAG), aiming at promoting the exchange, development, understanding and application of geography, has made tremendous contributions to the development and progress of Geography and its Annual Meeting has ascended into one of the first-class platforms of academic communication.
