2016 SYSBS Annual Research Methodology Workshop Held

The 2016 SYSBS Research Methodology Workshop was held at the Sun Yat-sen Business School (SYSBS) of Sun Yat-sen University on July 7-8. The theme for this year's Workshop was “Social Network Analysis in Management Research”. As the first nationwide workshop on such topic, it was aimed to tutor Chinese scholars about the basic concepts and applications related to social network analysis in the management field. In attendance were more than 300 professors and postgraduate students from over 60 universities in China and overseas.
Lead instructors for the Workshop were Dr. Mo Wang, the R. Perry Frankland Professor of Management at the Warrington College of Business at University of Florida, and Dr. Zhen Zhang, Associate Professor of Management and the Dean’s Council of Distinguished Scholar in the W. P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. The two professors enlightened the scholars in attendance with a vivid presentation reviewing the theorization and testing methods, including developing theoretical arguments and hypotheses testing.

The Workshop provided an informative guide for researchers to better social network analysis. The participants have learned numerous examples from the organizational and psychological literatures to review various research questions that can be addressed with social network analysis. The Workshop speakers also offered specific conceptual and empirical instructions including computer programming to illustrate various ways for social network analysis.
This workshop is the 6th annual workshop sponsored by SYSBS, featuring applications-oriented workshops focusing on the latest trends in organizational research methods. Prior to this workshop were Meta Analysis Workshop in 2011, Mixture Latent Modeling Workshop in 2012, Moderated Mediation and Mediated Moderation Workshop in 2013, Advanced Modeling with Longitudinal Data: Theorization and Test in 2014, and Computational Modeling in Management Research in 2015.
