Professor Cheng Huanwen led a delegation to attend the World Library and Information Congress and 82nd IFLA General Conference and Assembly

The World Library and Information Congress and 82nd IFLA General Conference and Assembly was held in Columbus, Ohio, the United States on August 13-18, 2016. Professor Cheng Huanwen, Associate Professor Zhang Jing and postgraduate student Lin Lin from the School of Information Management of Sun Yat-sen University attended the conference.

On the evening of August 13, Professor Cheng Huanwen delivered a speech at the Chinese Speaking Participants Caucus. He introduced the development trends of Chinese libraries in recent years and discussed hotspot issues of libraries with Chinese speaking participants at home and abroad. IFLA President Donna Scheeder and IFLA Secretary General Gerald Leitner attended this meeting.

On August 16, Associate Professor Zhang Jing presented a paper entitled “A Pilot Survey on the Applicability of the ILFA School Library Guidelines in South China: Eight School Libraries Cases in Guangdong Province” at the Standards Committee meeting. The chairman of the meeting and the Standards Committee spoke highly of the research and invited her to join the IFLA Standards Committee. The researches of Associate Professor Zhang Jing have been selected for two consecutive years to be presented in the conference.

IFLA is the highest level and most authoritative international professional organization in library communities. The World Library and Information Congress is held by IFLA annually, bringing together academics and experts from all over the world to explore frontier issues in the field of library and information. In this year's meeting, four papers from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan were selected. The School of Information Management of Sun Yat-sen University formally joined the IFLA this year, and became an IFLA member with voting rights.
