57 SYSU projects receive funding from NSSFC in 2018

On June 21, the National Planning Office of Philosophy and Social Science released the list of projects funded by the National Social Science Fund of China (NSSFC) in 2018. A total of 57 projects of Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) have received 12 million yuan of funding from NSSFC this year (including 4 major projects, 34 general projects and 19 youth projects), and the number of approved projects this year hits a record high and ranks third among universities nationwide.
In 2018, SYSU submitted a total of 237 projects to apply for NSSFC funding, with the success rate being 24.05%, which is nearly 9 percent higher than the national average success rate (15.2%). Theses approved projects are from 20 schools and departments or research institutes at SYSU. Among them, the Deaprtment of Chinese, Department of Philosophy, Department of History, and School of Government respectively have 6 projects approved. If analyzed by the disciplines, the SYSU projects submitted cover 20 disciplines out of the 23 disciplines in NSSFC, with projects in 18 disciplines approved, and the number of approved projects in the six fields of Chinese literature, philosophy, political science, sociology, world history, and library, information and philology is respectively ranked first among universities nationwide.
For four consecutive year, the number of SYSU projects approved by NSSFC has ranked in the top three among universities nationwide, demonstrating SYSU’s research strength in humanities and social sciences.
