Prof. Fu Minghui Awarded Title of “National Self-reliance Model”

Recently, the result was unveiled, the Fourth National Self-reliance Role Model and Advanced Workers in National Disabled Federation System Appraisal, organized by Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and China Disabled Persons’ Federation. With the approval of the State Council, a total number of 150 national self-support models, 100 national advanced individuals who contribute to aiding the disabled, 100 national advanced collectives that contribute to aiding the disabled, 50 national advanced workers in national disabled federation system, and 100 disabled households were granted awards. Prof. Fu Minghui from School of Engineering of SYSU was awarded the title of “National Self-support Model”.

"The blindness can only slow me down, but it can not change my direction, nor weaken my belief in progress." As a blind person, Prof. Fu Minghui self supports himself, strives for excellence, and has made outstanding career achievements in his work. Prof. Fu is the member of the 10th Committee of CPPCC of Guangdong Province, Vice-chairman of the 5th Congress of Guangdong Disabled Persons’ Federation, chairman of Guangdong Blind Persons’ Federation, member of the board of Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics of Guangdong Province. In 2001, he was admitted into the programme of Guangdong Qiang Bai Shi Project. In 2002, he was granted the award of Best 10 Disabled Workers of Guangzhou. In 2004, he was promoted to professor and doctoral supervisor. In 2008, he was awarded the title of National Outstanding Teachers in Mechanics and Outstanding Party Members of SYSU. In 2008, he invented the “Semi-cell Braille Digital-encoding Input Method Editor of Chinese Characters, which was patented by State Intellectual Property Office.
