Two Nobel Prize Winners Invited to the “SYSU Nobel Masters Lecture Series”

From December 1-2, Professor Robert Huber, a German scientist and Nobel Prize Winner for Chemistry of 1988, and Professor Richard R. Ernst, a Swiss scientist and Nobel Prize Winner for Chemistry of 1991, visited Sun Yat-sen University and attended “SYSU Nobel Masters Lecture Series”. Vice President Yan Guangmei, Xu Ningsheng and Li Mengfeng greeted the distinguished guests.

On the morning of December 2, the “SYSU Nobel Masters Lecture Series” took place on the North Campus. At the lecture, Professor Richard R. Ernst gave a presentation titled “Fascinating insight in chemistry, biology and medicine by NMR”, where he introduced the applications of NMR in the fields of structural chemistry, molecular biology and medicine as well as his research achievements in the field. Meanwhile, Professor Robert Huber made an academic report on “Proteins and their Structures at the Interface of Physics, Chemistry and Biology”, presenting the structures of various representative proteins and the relationship between changes of protein structures and disease. The lecture was presided over by Vice President Yan Guangmei. More than 500 teachers and students from Zhongshan School of Medicine, School of Pharmaceutical Science, School of Public Health, School of Life Sciences, School of Chemistry, School of Physics and Engineers as well as several affiliated hospitals attended the lecture.
