Economic Development and Social Security Prof. Zheng Gongcheng of Renmin University of China Giving an Academic Report
On the morning of Dec.2nd, Prof Zheng Gongcheng of Renmin University of China, Vice-president of China Social Insurance Association and Deputy-director of the Academic Committee, had visited Lingnan College, and the lecture hall on the third floor of Lingnan Hall was packed with teachers and students of Lingnan College as well as teachers and students from other universities and departments as professor Zheng gave an academic report on the “Economic Development and Social Security.” Professor Zheng held that Prof Zheng claimed that the establishment of social security had been affected by the economic, political, cultural and many other factors. After the financial crisis, a consensus had formed gradually in the domestic, which was the establishment of a social security system is an outcome affected by various factors such as economy, politics, culture, etc. Having gone through the financial crisis, the mainland china has reached a consensus which holds that in order to maintain a sustained, healthy and high-speed growth, growth patterns must be changed from the economic by the pulling power of the export-oriented foreign trade as ground to the one driven by domestic demand. Meanwhile, in order to achieve domestic demand, people’s living standards must be improved together with the stable and safe expectations. On the social background of irreversible weakening of domestic function, stable and safe expected-demand .could only be provided by social security.
In the report, in corresponding with actual situation, Prof Zheng enumerated examples from Sweden, the United States and other countries, and touching on hotly debated issues like housing and others and explained the importance of social security. Professor Zheng’s witty remarks and humor elicited laughter from time to time in the audience. The Students remarked that they had learned a lot.
