Academician Sun Jiaguang, Deputy Director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Academy of Sciences, Giving A Report at SYSU

On the morning of Dec.13th, Academician Sun Jiaguang, deputy director of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Academy of Sciences, was invited by SYSU to give a report on “Information Science and Technology Development” in the Swasey Hall. The meeting was directed by Xu Anlong, Deputy-president of SYSU. More than 200 teachers and students from the School of Information Science and Technology, the School of Software, the School of Mathematics and Computational Science and other schools attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Academician Sun talked about the history, development and future of information science and technology in three parts, namely, “The Past Illuminates Future”, “New Century Gestates New Revolution of Information Science” and “Information Technology Revolution Look Forward to Innovative Talents”. He also maintained that good innovative talent of information science should be responsible, aspiring, upright and perseveres. After the meeting, teachers and students from our school had a discussion with Academician Sun regarding issues such as research orientation of information science and technology, development of the schools of soft in universities, how to obtain the balance between the basic research and applied research, etc.
