Lingnan MBAs Shine on the World Stage
In 2010, Deliworm team, the 1st runner-up from the 2010 Lingnan Business Plan Competition, was invited to compete in the 8C Business Plan Competition at Colorado School of Mines from April 7-11 and the Rice University Business Plan Competition at Rice University from April 15 – 17. The trips were valuable and unique experience for the team of Yanzi LIANG, Yuewen QU and Anna Barysheva from year 2009 Lingnan full-time MBA students. At the competition in Colorado, they were selected to move directly at the Global Moot Corp Competition in Austin, Texas, at May 2010.
The second challenge at Rice University was much more intense as they have to compete against top business schools such as MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Lancaster, Rice, Purdue and several others. For our Lingnan team, the outcome of the competition was beyond expectation. The judges and sponsors were impressed by Deliworm“s project which won them the 3rd place in the semi-final, out of 700 participants from 42 teams. In addition, Deliworm also grabbed The second DFJ Mercury Tech Transfer Investment Prize and The Courageous Women Entrepreneur Award. These are prestigious honors for our fine team of dedicated and hardworking ladies from Lingnan. The award-winning project will be submitted for patent application as a biotechnological – custom designed automation system to mass produce live organic worm meals to substitute the current fish meals mitigating the depletion of fish stock.
Deliworm was not the first team to compete in the coming Global Moot Corp Competition at Austin, Texas in this coming May, 2010. Last time in 2002, a Lingnan MBA students team represented Asia in the same competition where they were ranked as one of the top 10 teams.
Indeed, recognizing the importance of entrepreneurship spirit, Lingnan (University) College holds annually the “Lingnan MBA Business Plan Competition” in the MBA program with the purpose to develop students’ innovative thinking and skills. The champion team will represent the college to attend the Asia Moot Corp round and upon being usefully selected, they will move to a more global competition, such as held at Austin, Texas. The challenge to shine spearheads a sense of motivation for our MBA students to continue with this fine tradition of excellence.

About Global Moot Corp Competition
(http://www.mootcorp.org/teams_univ10.asp)
The inaugural MOOT CORP Competition was held in the Graduate School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin in 1984. With a 21-year history, it is considered the most prestigious competition in the world of its kind for MBA students, and has been crowned “the Super Bowl of world business plan competition”. In the competition, MBAs from the world working in teams conceive an idea for a new business, develop the idea into a written business plan, and present the plan to a panel of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, accountants and lawyers. Only those who are invited by MOOT CORP Competition organizer, or the Regional Champions from regional MOOT CORP Competitions, can participate in the global competition.
