The SYSU Nanhai Marine Biotechnology National Engineering Research Center Passed the Evaluation
On the afternoon of April 26, the inspection meeting for the project of “Nanhai Biotechnology National Engineering Research Center” was held in Guangzhou by the Guangdong Development and Reform Committee. 7 experts, with academician Xu Xun from the third institute of oceanography, State Oceanic Administration as the head of the experts group, listened to the report made by the person in charge of the project, reviewed the application materials and investigated the construction spot. Through a series of inquiries and discussions, the expert group unanimously agreed the pass of the project and spoke highly of the accomplishment of the construction work for the engineering center. The meeting was hosted by Wang Xiao, director of High-tech Office of the development and reform committee. Vice president Xu Anlong, Academician Lin Haoran from School of Life Sciences, He Jianguo, president of School of Oceanology, Seretary Wu Shaoxin from School of Life Sciences, Dong Meizhen, vice director of High-tech Office as well as other leaders and experts attended the inspection meeting.
The engineering center, employing modern biotechnology, conducts research, exploration, engineering testing and industrialized demonstration on marine aquaculture and aquatic products (medicine). At present, the engineering center has built three laboratories for marine natural medicines, marine biofunctional genome and nutrition disease respectively, 6 engineering technological platforms for the retrieval technique of marine biofunctional genes and functional proteins, etc. as well as 3 demonstration bases for superior fish fry industrialization, deep-water net-wave cultivation, etc. Meanwhile, the engineering center has accomplished lots of research achievements with intellectual property. The center also emphasizes outwards technologies transferring and technical service. Until now, 15 technological productions have been transformed. Therefore, the center has played a positive role in technology extension. In addition, the center possesses a well-organized research team with strong innovation ability and high quality. The construction of engineering center not only enhanced the researching and testing ability for the engineering of SYSU’s important marine biotechnology accomplishments but also efficiently promoted the industrialization of marine biotechnological research products.
