SYSU Academician Lin Haoran Received Guangdong Outstanding Service Award for Science and Technology

On the morning of May 7, Guangdong Science and Technology Awarding Ceremony as well as Work Mobilization Meeting in Guangdong pilot for National Technology Innovation Project were held at Baiyun International Conference Center by the Guangdong provincial party committee and government. Wang Yang, member of the Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee & Secretary of Guangdong provincial Party Committee, Li Xueyong, Secretary of the Party Group of Ministry of Science and Technology, Huang Huahua, deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee & the governor, as well as provincial leaders including Zhu Xiaodan, Wang Ningsheng, Songhai, Wan Qingliang, Chen Weiwen, etc. attended the meeting. Lin Haoran, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, fish biology and aquiculture expert and also professor of School of Life Sciences, SYSU,received the outstanding service award. Secretary Wang Yang presented the award for academician Lin Haoran. President Huang Daren and award representatives attended the meeting.

As is reported, 2 outstanding service awards for science and technology and 271 science and technology awards (1 special award, 29 first prizes, 76 second prizes and 165 third prizes) had been selected for the year of 2009. SYSU got 1 outstanding service award, 3 first prizes, 9 second prizes and 5 third prizes of science and technology awards.

Lin Haoran stayed and started teaching at SYSU with a degree in Zoology from the Biology Department in July, 1954. In 1997, He was selected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Professor Lin is not only a famous fish physiologist and aquaculture expert but also one of the advocators for the study of Chinese fish physiology and reproductive endocrinology. Cooperating with Professor R. E. Peter, Professor Lin expounded the mechanism by which the synthesis and secretion of gonadotropin hormone in fish pituitary are regulated by the neuroendocrine, and base on the mechanism, he successfully developed a new kind of fish oxytocin, which is renowned in the academic circle as the third milestone in fish artificial spawning technology and named as the “Lin – Peter Method”. And this has brought great economic and social benefit these years.
