Research Achievement by SYSU Teacher Zhang Peng Won the First Prize for Shanxi Science and Technology Award

Recently, Shanxi provincial governor Yuan Chunqing hosted an executive meeting and announced the results of 2009 Shanxi Science and Technology Award. , in which Zhang Peng, a teacher from School of Sociology and Anthropology, SYSU, won the first prize.

In the past ten years, Mr. Zhang, cooperating with Professor Li Baoguo from Northwestern University, has been committing himself to the study and protection of Shanxi Qinling golden monkey, with the research achievements being widely concerned and highly praised in the circles of primates study and behavior ecology home and abroad. Mr. Zhang is also appointed as member of IUCN Primates Experts Group and IUCN Species Survival Commission.

As is reported, “Shanxi Science and Technology Award” aims to reward the citizens or organizations making prominence contribution in the process of science and technology development. A total of 206 scientific and technological research achievements had been selected and rewarded in 2009, with 33 first prizes, 79 second prizes and 94 third prizes.
