Professor Yang Dali Lectures on the Political Science Lecture Series
Professor Yang Dali from the University of Chicago visited the School of Government at SYSU on 13 May, and gave a lecture on the 13th Seminar of Political Science Lecture Series: Political Economy of Risk Management in China. Professor Ni Xing, Vice Dean of the School of Government, Associate Professor Guo Zhonghua, head of the Department of Political Science, Associate Professor Liu Yaping, Associate Professor Liu Yaping, head of Department of Public Administration and some young teachers attended the seminar.
Professor Yangdiscussed the relationship between the state and the society in the risk management. Taking the supervision of medication and coal mine safety as an example, he analyzed the limitations of Chinese administration and society in monitoring and supervision. He believed that, administration-led monitoring was still a basic characteristic in the Chinese society, and meanwhile, society is playing an increasingly important role in it, to some extent it even pushes the state to accord more respect to dignity and freedom of the people.
Professor Yang Dali is now a professor of political science at the University of Chicago, and director of East Asian Institute. His research interests mainly focus on comparative politics, political science and Chinese politics. He received his Ph.D. degree from Princeton University with a degree in international relations and comparative politics. He joined the University of Chicago in 1992 and is now the editor of American Political Science Review, Foreign Quarterly, and Modern China.
