To Celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the “Science in China” and “Chinese Science Bulletin”, Two Academicians were Invited to Yat-sen Forum

2010 marks the 60th anniversary of the “Sciencein China”and “Chinese Science Bulletin”. And our school is listed as the first stop for the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the two publications. May 17th, academician Zhu Zuoyan, general editor of the two publications and academician Xia Jianbai, editor of the "ScienceBulletin" led a report team to visit our school, delivering excellent academic reports for teachers and students. This report is also a program through which SYSU expands its academic exchanges by inviting top notch individuals to give academic talks, ----part of the event series of the SYSU Yet-sen Forum. The seminar was presided over by Xu Ningsheng and Xu Anlong.

Professor Zhu Zuoyan, a wellknown aquatic biologist and chairman of the Chinese Association for International Cooperation took the topic, “Scientific Heritage from Tong Dizhou” gave a through and concise presentation of Mr. Tong Dizhou’ research path. He started with the discovering of the spirit of scientific discovery to the scientific discovery channel and time period, urging teachers and students to grasp the essence of the spirit of scientific inquiry, not to present papers as the real purpose. And should not seek publishing in foreign journals of high article points at the expense of wasting valuable time in scientific exploration. Academician Xia Jianbai, famous semiconductor physicist, gave a detailed introduction to the history, application and future development of semiconductors, focusing on semiconductor technology in large scale integrated circuits, optical communication technology, wireless communication technology and semiconductor solar cells and other applications. It was suggested that youngstudents should learn good basic knowledge and develop independent thinking and innovative spirit of ardent hope. At last, Mr. Peng Bin, Chairman of “Sciencein China”magazine limited company had a presentation on “Sciencein China, Chinese Science Bulletin as the witness of china scientific development”.

After the report, Academician Zhu Zuoyan and Xia Jianbai visited the State Key Laboratory of pest control and resource usage and the State Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Materials and Technology with their teams. They had a lively discussion on the features and development of the two Columns, exchanging views of their editorial board composition, manuscriptorganization, and issues of network with teachers and students.
