Advanced Workshop of Western Literature Restoration Held in SYSU Library

An Advanced workshop on the restoration of western literature was held in SYSU library from June 28th to July 8th. The workshop was sponsored by SYSU library and the Hongkong Goethe Institute. Seventeen trainees from National Library, library of Nan Jing University, People Library of Tianjin, library of Hong Kong Baptist University, library of The University of Hongkong and Arquivo Histrico de Macau attended the workshop.

Ms Monika Schneidereit-Gast, founder of paper conservation studio in Solingen Germany and a senior document conservator, was specially invited to give the lectures. Ms Monika Schneidereit-Gast graduated from Camberwell College of Arts, and got qualification certification from the Association of Document Conservation in British. She has been working for ancient books repairs for about thirty years and has rich experiences in theory and practice of western literature conservation and repairs. This is the second time that SYSU library has sponsored a national workshop on the restoration of western literature since “it held the 1st national workshop of western literature restoration” last year.

The workshop focused on operational skills. Ms Monika Schneidereit-Gast gave a detailed demonstration and explanation on the construction of repairs file, binding and principle and methods of western literature restoration, such as western bound book and leather books.
