Academician Lin Haoran of SYSU won “First Guangdong Innovation Award”
To further implement the strategy of reinvigorating Guangdong through human resources development and encourage talents to make contributions though innovation and entrepreneurship, the CPC Guangdong Committee and Guangdong People’s government made a strategic decision to attract and cultivate high-level talents, including the establishment of Guangdong Contribution Award and Innovation Award. On the afternoon of January 13, Guangdong party committee and government held a provincial talent working conference, giving commendation to the winners of the Contribution Award and Innovation Award. Lin Haoran, Professor of School of Life Science, SYSU and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, won the “First Guangdong Innovation Award”
Concentrating on “fry breeding and improved breed cultivation” – an urgent problem yet to be solved in China, Academician Lin devoted himself to the creative establishment of a new theory and applying technology to control the breeding and growing of fish. And he attained internationally advanced theoretical achievement that is universally acknowledged and technological application that brings notable economic benefits. Academician Lin’s achievements powerfully promoted the sustainable and rapid development of China’s fish-farming industry. His new theory of controlling fish reproductive endocrinology provided significant theoretic basis for multiple fish artificial propagations one year and the development of high-active fish oxytocic. Based on the new theory, Academician Lin successfully developed a new kind of high-active fish oxytocic and organized a large-scale application and dissemination which obtained remarkable success with more than 29 billion RMB. This method, acknowledged as “Linpe Method (i.e. named after Professor Lin and R.E.Peter, a Canadian cooperator) and honored as the third milestone in the field of fish artificial propagation, effectively solved the shortage of fry species and vigorously promoted the stable development of fish-farming in China. This is the first method that named after Chinese people in international ichthyology, not only filling in the gaps in the research of fish endocrinology in China but also make China leap to internationally advanced level in aspect of neuroendocrine regulation and functional genomics mechanisms in fish propagation and growth. Academician Lin established both theoretical system of endocrinology in fish propagation and growth and technological systems in the regulation of fish propagation and growth as well as fry species cultivation, which accomplished great results in the application of the cultivation of many important industry fish species such as the four everybody fish, grouper, tilapia mossambica and andria davidianus, etc. and greatly promoted the technology advancement of aquaculture and the sustainable development of fish-farming in China.
