Nanfang Daily reported: Recently American Academy of Arts and Science released the list of new Academicians for this year which shows that five ethnic Chinese scholars are included and two of whom graduated from the universities in Guangdong—Professor Zhang Shouwu of Department of Mathematics, University of Columbia, graduated from Sun Yat-sen University while Professor Hou Yizhao of Application and Computing Mathematics, California Institute of Technology, graduated from South China University of Technology.

American Academy of Arts and Science which is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts was established in 1780 and is the earliest academician institution. This year 212 scholars, writers, artists, business leader as well as winners of Nobel Prize and Pulitzer are added into the list of new academicians
