Academic Special Report given by Renowned Bibilogist Mr. Shen Jin was held in Library

On May 10th, at the invitation of Library Society Guangdong, the former director of Harvard-Yenching Library Rare Book Division and the distinguished expert of SYSU, Mr. Shen Jin gave an academic special report entitled as “The General Situation of the Collection and Sorting of Ancient Chinese Books in East Asia Libraries in US”. Nearly 300 people, from the library of our university, the School of Information Management and other brother universities and libraries, attended this symposium, which was hosted by Professor Chen Huanwen, the president of Library Society Guangdong and the chief librarian of SYSU library.

Mr. Shen Jin introduced the general situation, resources and developmental features of the collection of ancient Chinese books in important East Asia Libraries in US, like Harvard-Yenching Library in his report. He utilized his own experience to introduce the edition identification of ancient books and the experience of sorting them, which has a high value to the identification and sorting of ancient books. In his report, Mr. Shen Jin was very familiar with the features and values of the rare ancient Chinese books in libraries home and abroad, including Harvard-Yenching Library. He told fascinating stories related to these books, which were really enjoyed by the audiences.
