To Build a Characteristic Discipline Setting and Management Mechanism Adapting to Talents Cultivation and Meeting Social Demand

On the morning of May 26, Sun Yat-sen University held a conference on discipline setting and graduate education. The conference invited Liang Guoxiong, Vice Inspector of the State Council Academic Degrees Committee Office and Xu Weiqing, Director of the Quality Supervision and Information Department to make a report. Yang Qinghua, Director of Office of Planning and Development, hosted the conference. President Xu Ningsheng was present and delivered a speech. The Vice-president Wang Jianping, principal administrators of each schools, departments and affiliated hospitals, principals who in charge of discipline setting and graduate education, the staff of Office of Planning and Development and School of Graduate and colleagues from other universities of Guangdong Province, altogether 210 people were present at the conference.

After the five-year consultation and evaluation by the experts, Academic Degree Commission of the State Council has finished the revision of Discipline Catalogue of Degree Awarding and Talents Cultivation and the new discipline catalogue was published in March this year. The adjustment of discipline catalogue has great influence on graduate education, which will make changes on the planning of discipline setting, the idea and the model of graduate cultivation. The purpose of the conference is to have a deep analysis of the key task and the spirit of the discipline catalogue adjustment.
