Four More Professors of SYSU Have Been Appointed as Special Engaged Professors of the Pearl River Scholar

The lists of 2011 Guangdong Institution of Higher Learning Pearl River Scholar candidates and academic disciplines were released recently. Four disciplines of SYSU, which are surgery, modern Chinese history, social security and environmental science, were approved as Guangdong Institution of Higher Learning Pearl River Scholar Planning Disciplines. Four professors Wu Zhongkai, Cheng Meibao, Yue Jinglun and Qiu Rongliang were appointed as Guangdong Institution of Higher Learning special engaged professors of the Pearl River Scholar.

Pearl River Scholar Project is the highest level of the talents project in Guangdong Province, which aims to attract and select outstanding young academic talents, foster international or domestic leading-level experts, promote the rapid development of disciplines and improve Guangdong universities’ academic statuses and competitiveness both at home and abroad.

The position setting and employment of the special engaged professors has undergone four processes, namely the individual’s application, recommendation from their universities, evaluation of specialists organized by the Department of Education of Guangdong Province and the publicity of the results. Altogether 27 disciplines of 11 universities were set up as Pearl River Scholar positions and 27 professors were employed. So far, 21 professors of SYSU were selected for the program.
