From Nanfang Daily “Chen Yinque” Academic Lectures, the academic lectures of the highest level in Sun Yat-Sen University, was officially launched yesterday at 7.p.m. The guest speaker of the first lectures is Wang Gengwu, the world renowned scholar, former president of Hong Kong University and the present distinguished professor of National University of Singapore. He will give three lectures on national culture in Hong Lok Yuen. From now on, Sun Yat-Sen University will invite 3 - 4 international top scholars as visiting professors to give 3 - 4 lectures every academic year.

Before the lecture, students from SYSU threw doubts upon it in micro-blog: Why the theme of “Chen Yinque” Academic Lectures has nothing to do with Chen Yinque? Wang Gengwu explained it as a misinterpretation of the lectures. The three lectures, namely “Late Tang Dynasty: cultures in the world”, “Min and Qing Dynasty: Culturnation” and “After the Revolution of 1911: Nation State and State Culture”, have all been influenced by Chen Yinque. Wang Gengwu stressed further that Chen Yinque had achieved great attainments in fields like history, literature and religion in his lifetime; His breadth of vision was what we needed to inherit and spread.
