【Xinhua Net】Sun Yat-sen University Opened Up a Fertile Ground for Young Teachers’ Growth

Xinhua Net Guangzhou reported on January 18, Sun Yat-sen University, a century-old school, has focused on young teachers introduction and cultivation for many years. On the premise of paying full attention to teaching, SYSU doesn’t require mandatory number of young teachers’ annual published papers, doesn’t suppress their creativity with quantitative management, which has formed a favorable atmosphere of caring and supporting young talents.
In the recent three years, on the basis of teaching objectives and subject development, SYSU is stepping up its efforts of young teacher introduction. From 2009 to 2011, young teachers cover 70% of the annual number of teachers introduced, and most of them came from overseas.
For the past few years, within the framework of national and local policies, SYSU has developed a young teacher cultivation system for different stages, characteristics and subjects. For example, “young teacher start-up funding scheme”, "young teacher overseas study scheme”, "young teacher cultivation scheme”, "young teacher special cultivation scheme”, etc; SYSU provides a large fund for young teachers’ scientific research work; for subject leaders and other high level talents, SYSU offers major project development and uprising interdisciplinary subject development funding scheme, high level talent special funding scheme, excellent scholar award scheme, etc.
