SYSU Anthropology Ranked the First Place among the “2011Chinese Universities Graduate Schools of Law and Various Disciplines Ranking”

According to the latest published data of “2011Chinese Universities Graduate Schools of Law and Various Disciplines Ranking”, anthropology of Sun Yat-sen University ranked the first place, with Anthropology of Peking University and Renmin University of China ranking in the second and third.

In the educational system of Europe and the United States, anthropology, sociology and psychology are collectively referred to as “the three significant disciplines in Social Sciences”, which have been playing an important role in general education. The world famous universities as well as most comprehensive universities have established Department of Anthropology or Anthropology major. In the Top 20 Universities in the United States, Anthropology plays a significant role in humanities and social sciences. It had great influence on philosophy, literature, history, sociology, law and other disciplines in humanities and social sciences in the twentieth century.

Anthropology is one of SYSU’s most distinguished and strongest disciplines. SYSU Anthropology Department is also the only teaching and research unit with doctorate, master and bachelor degree in the country. In 2002, Anthropology of SYSU was selected as one of the first national key disciplines. SYSU Anthropology Department has attached great importance to international standards and committed to perfect the discipline system. Four major branches of anthropology (Cultural anthropology/ethnology, linguistic anthropology, physical anthropology and archaeology) have been developed coordinately in Sun Yat-sen University.
